If you hold a full UK passport, you can travel to Greece without a Visa.

However UK residents who are not EU nationals are required to apply for Schengen Visa to travel to Greece.

Few countries citizens are also required to possess a transit visa to change airplane at the airport in Schengen area country. The list of the countries subjected to this rule includes: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Congo (Drc), Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka.

Schengen visa is a short stay visa that allows you to stay in the country for a maximum time period of 90 days (3 months) every 6 months irrespective of the nature of visit. Working or Studying people holding a D Visa are exempted from this rule.

The citizens of the countries of the Schengen Zone as well as the citizens of the countries that don’t need a visa to enter the Schengen zone are however not allowed to reside in the traveling destination for the time desired without any other legal permission.

Family Members of EU citizens do need a Visa in order to enter Schengen Zone. However, they are benefitted with certain procedural facilitations to obtain the visa application procedure alleviated and faster. However, you need to fulfill the basic criteria such as:

• You need to be a first degree family member of the EU citizen (Spouse or a child under 21 years old).
• EU citizen should accompany you to Greece or any country in the Schengen Area and should have a proof.

You are recommended to apply for Greece Schengen visa 30 days prior to your planned trip. This is the maximum time required to proceed with all the documentation and travel requests.

The visa issued for any Schengen country can be used to cross any Schengen border. However, for short stay visa alone does not entitle you to enter other Schengen area. You may need to provide additional documentation, for example travel confirmations, letter of invitations and other documents stating the purpose of stay.

The visa can only be extended within the expiry period of the current visa and not post that. However there should be some strong reason like serious personal reasons, force majeure, humanitarian reasons or some serious illness resulting in extending the authorized period of stay. You may also need to also provide documents to support the reason of extension.

However, you are free to re-apply if your application was refused earlier. However, this time take care the mistakes are not repeated before submitting the new application.

Children below 6 years of age are not required to be present. A child who is more than 6 years old needs to present.
